Miniflex Optical Fibre Drop-Tube (OFDT) is a small sized reinforced tube for use in the external, local access infrastructure.

For an optical fibre infrastructure a self supporting overhead drop-tube can be used as a carrier for a blown fibre bundle, a loose tube multi-fibre unit, a small microcable or an assembly of 900 micron buffered fibres. OFDT can contain up to 16 fibres and dry, swellable, water blocking cords.

OFDT incorporates the Miniflex low-friction DVC™ lining material and provides the ideal carrier for blown fibre as well as pulling and pushing applications. It has an outside diameter of 6mm with 2.5mm inner diameter.

Applications
Ideally suited to blowing, pushing and pulling applications, including:

• Suspension from overhead telegraph poles
• Direct burial
• Cable ducts
• Surface-laid troughs
• Track side cable support fencing

Features & Benefits
Performance criteria
A self supporting UV stabilised polymeric sheath tube of circular cross-section, incorporating integral high tensile steel strength members and a lined bore suitable for containing the required fibre assembly.
The construction is rated for use in crossing under or over high voltage cables up to 11kV.
The mechanical strength is sufficient to allow span lengths up to 68 metres under the specified environmental conditions.

Mechanical performance
OFDT is a self supporting tube with an ultimate tensile strength, not less than 1350 N and no more than 1550 N. It uses the Miniflex DVC™ low friction lining that enables a fibre bundle to be installed into multiple spans of up to 500m
total length, from one end using normal blown fibre techniques and apparatus.

Installation criteria
For overhead use the OFDT should be attached using a preformed wire spiral anchor. This anchoring system does not tightly bend or restrict the bore of the OFDT in any manner likely to cause any degradation in optical performance of the fibres, even under maximum working tension. For duct use, normal pulling attachments and methods can be used, the same applies to blowing.

Ordering Information
Please contact your nearest Miniflex representative. OFDT is supplied in reel sizes of 300 metres. OFDT specified preformed wire anchor is available on request.
